Dream: it was discovered that I hadn't taken some required English course in college, so I needed to go back and take it now. The class was assigned to read a coming-of-age novel entitled Naked As I Wandered Still, and try as I might I couldn't get a handle on the book. It was written in a very choppy prose, short sentences and sentence fragments (the first sentence was "Hi."), and was full of vignettes about boarding school and hijinks with cars and discovering girls, but somehow I couldn't make any of it mean anything to me, and I couldn't make myself motivated enough to finish the reading assignments on time. The teacher, a sorta frumpy woman in her 40's, seemed utterly convinced that this was The Great American Novel, and nobody else seemed to be having trouble with it. Moreover, I had a feeling of deja vu, as though I had tried taking this course before, been assigned the same pointless book, and dropped out of the course.
