We were hosting on a sort of salon concert, in which the guest soloist was a young woman who would knit a particular complex pattern to harpsichord accompaniment. There were perhaps two dozen people in the audience, in an attractive, well-lit room of the appropriate size. And the directions we were given along with the harpsichord part and the knitting pattern ended with "and if you've done everything right, M(soloist)", with the understanding in the dream that this meant the soloist would be murdered. Naturally, we didn't want the soloist to be murdered at the end of the concert (or any other time), so we took every precaution we could think of. Nor did we want the concert to get cancelled, so we didn't tell the soloist of our concerns that she would get murdered. And yet I had a sense that somehow, as always happens in these stories, all our efforts to prevent the murder would end up causing it. I never found out, though, because I woke up shortly before the end of the piece.
