I had an appointment for somebody to try to fix our bedroom radiator, originally for Tuesday 6:30 but the tech was delayed so we agreed to move it to yesterday 6:30. But since I was home from work, I called in the morning and left a message to say we could do it during the day if that was more convenient for them. I never got a call back about that, so at 6:00 I turned the thermostat way up to make the difference among radiators clear. At 6:35 I called the company again to ask where the tech was, and the guy who answered the phone said he would check and get back to me. At 7:35 I called again to ask where the tech was, and while I was explaining the situation I got a call back from the guy I had talked to yesterday, saying his tech was on a "no-heat call" that might take minutes or hours. But by this time the bedroom radiator was actually hot to the touch, both ends (not just the far end), for the first time in over a year, so we agreed that I would fiddle with the variable bleeder valve in order to get it adjusted right (he says a "C" or "6" bleeder should be right for our situation, although the variable bleeder valve doesn't seem to have such calibrations, only an unlabelled dial that goes from left to right), and they wouldn't come over unless I called again. I turned the thermostat back down to 68 or 70. Haven't caught the radiator being hot to the touch since, but the bedroom wasn't ridiculously cold last night.
