I was at a week-long workshop like Amherst Early Music, which as usual was putting on a student performance project developed over the course of the week. This year I wasn't in the project, just an interested spectator. The odd thing is that this time the student performance project didn't seem to involve music at all: it was more like a piece of financial software. Anyway, the participants (largely pre-professionals in their teens and twenties, as usual at Amherst) included some very talented people, and did quite a good job of it. How one turns a piece of financial software into a performance piece is left as an exercise for the reader....
