Spent probably two hours watching inauguration ceremonies & related stuff. There was no violence, no snide remarks by sore losers... even the outgoing President wished the new administration well. Which is a standard and expected thing for an outgoing President to do, but it's probably the single classiest thing he's said or done in four years. Was particularly impressed by the Youth Poet Laureate's contribution to the ceremonies, and I actually had a tear in my eye when Lady Gaga got to "our flag was still there," as there had been real question about that two weeks before.

New President Biden issued 17 executive orders in a few hours, reversing or freezing things He Who Shall Not Be Named had done by executive order:

• suspended the Keystone XL pipeline authorization,


• froze oil and gas leases in ANWAR,


• rejoined the Paris climate treaty,


• rejoined the World Health Organization,


• ended the prohibition on Federal contractors conducting racial-diversity training for their employees,


• reinstated the National Security Council's group on global health and biodefense,


• required mask wearing and social distance on all Federal property,


• reinstated DACA,


• dropped the un-Constitutional plan to exclude undocumented immigrants from census counts,


• dropped the Jan. 2017 Moslem ban,


• stopped deporting Liberians,


• stopped building a wall on the Mexico border,


• reversed the rollback of auto fuel efficiency standards,


• reversed the shrinking of several national monuments,


• reinstated a working group on the costs of greenhouse gases,


• disbanded the "1776 Commission", which was apparently charged with defining American patriotism in terms of white men and dismissing anything bad (like slavery) America has ever done,


• reinstated the prohibition on Federal government discrimination based on sexual orientation or identification,


• froze evictions on FHA-mortgaged properties for a few months,


• froze college-loan payments for a few months,


• established ethics rules for executive-branch appointees, and


• froze "all new regulations put in place by his predecessor to give his administration time to evaluate which ones it wants to move forward."

The cleaning of house has begun....
