Dream journal

Several interesting dreams. One involved a game that everybody I knew was playing, something like Magic: The Gathering or Pokemon. Eventually I decided to give it a try, so I showed up at a park where I knew that people played it a lot and got two other people together for a game (in a car, for some dream-logic reason). It turned out that two of the three of us had never played before, and the third was only slightly more experienced, so we had no idea what to do. After some maneuvering and parallel-parking of the car, I rolled down the window and said something like "Anybody experienced that we could borrow?" They got us out of the car and put each of us at a separate table with people who knew what they were doing. I was dealt a card and asked to roll a die, which appeared to be a 20-sided die so unevenly made that some parts of it were actually concave, and the rest far from regular. It landed on the ground behind me, with no face on top, but the expert at my table told me that of the faces nearest the top, I should read off the most-nearly-vertical one. So I did that. Our friend Alec walked by, with a pit bull, and asked what I was doing, then corrected himself and said "obviously, you're learning the game. Welcome!"

Another dream involved a wrecked civilization trying to rebuild itself, and my frustration at seeing that every community in it seemed to want to declare itself a "nation". I don't remember any more of this one. It was presumably inspired by the latest book I read, Octavia Butler's Lilith's Brood. About which more in a separate post.
