Yes, I thought it was strictly New World. If I read the article right, the most common kind of vanilla today comes from Mexico, but other closely-related species that produce essentially the same aromatic compounds are native to East Africa.
This is a very clear and succinct summary of how basic statistical principles apply to much of life. I wish you had gone one step further after discussing voter fraud to how voter suppression is its inverse. Voter suppression is acceptance of very high false positives. The conservative justification, however, is the prevention of false negatives (voter fraud).
