kitchen renovation
Signed a contract last night for the kitchen renovation. I was planning to meet
shalmestere at the Lowe's in Brooklyn so we could both go over things and both sign paperwork, but she had a particularly rough day (a medical exam involving needles, IV drips, and large, noisy, claustrophobic machines) and didn't want to deal with driving to Brooklyn at rush hour. So I did the visit and paperwork by myself. (We'd already agreed on most of the appliances and finishes in previous visits.)
It involved promising to pay five digits' worth of money. The only more-expensive thing I've ever promised to pay for was a house (six digits). It'll seriously disrupt our day-to-day lives for a few weeks in March.
But I think it'll be a big improvement. The kitchen was last "done" about 1980, with the appliances, wallpaper, vinyl flooring, and faux wood-grain formica cabinets that implies.
