Not a good month for governments and their leaders...

Five weeks ago Donald Trump won the US Presidential election, so there will be a new administration in DC five weeks from now, expected to be even more openly corrupt than the previous Trump administration, and favoring strongman dictators over democratically-elected governments.

The prime minister of France lost a no-confidence vote a few weeks ago.

The government of Syria collapsed with stunning rapidity after fifty years in the hands of the Assads; the President is now taking refuge in Moscow. There are at least four different insurgent groups in Syria, each with different motivations and each claiming control of a different part of the country.

The president of South Korea was impeached a few days ago and may well be removed from office.

And today the chancellor of Germany, whose three-party coalition had fallen apart last month, lost a no-confidence vote.

And I expect you've heard the news from Ottawa as well by now: Crystia Freeland resigned from cabinet rather than accept a change of portfolio - until today, she was both deputy PM and finance minister - and Housing Minister Sean Fraser announced that he was leaving federal politics at the end of the current term.

Freeland hurts worse, because she was our point minister for the Ukraine and Russia files unofficially regardless of whatever else was going on.

I was about to say "and Canada", but you beat me to it. (Though the only Canadian politics currently affecting me are the C-71 delay and the Canada Post strike, with the former making the latter less relevant since I can't mail in my forms anyway. Though I also can't order my grandfather's birth certificate as a preliminary measure since Saskatchewan Health isn't mailing anything right now....)
