overheard from the Capitol

"Some members of this chamber would impeach a President as a political ploy, just because they disagree with him. This lowers the bar for impeachment of every future President." [I didn't catch who said this.]

You know, if the bar is "lowered" to the point that they impeach every future President, of any party, who incites even one teensy weensy armed mob to attack the Capitol building while Congress is in session so he can stay in office beyond his elected term... I'm fine with that.

In fact, if the bar were even lower, covering such trivial offenses as threatening election officials to falsify election results or extorting foreign leaders to support one's re-election campaign, or for that matter tampering with witnesses to obstruct a Justice Department investigation into one's acceptance of election help from a hostile foreign government, that might not be so bad.
