As it turned out, there was remarkably little "divisive talk about international politics", I met a bunch of people I didn't know (several of whom live within a block of me), and the weather wasn't as hot as forecast. There was a substantial discussion of the pros and cons of ranked-choice voting (and various things that might go by that name). And although I carefully wore a non-political T-shirt, one of the organizers wore a T-shirt that said "Nobody is illegal" and "No ICE".
